Following recent approval from local authorities, the Da Nang International Marathon Competition 2013 will take place in the city on 1 September.   The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) will be the consultants for the event.

Organised by World Marathon Tours Inc (head office in Houston, Texas, USA), this year’s event will consist of 3 races: the full marathon (42.195km run), a half marathon (21.0975km run) and a 5km run and walk.  The race route will be Eastern Sea Park - Bach Dang Street - Hoang Sa Street - Truong Sa Street - Thuan Phuoc Bridge - Son Tra Peninsula - Eastern Sea Park.  

Apart from runners, visitors and residents nationwide, the event is expected to attract about 2,000 foreign athletes.

A Steering Board for the competition has been established, and the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh, has been appointed Head of the Board, whilst the Vice Chairman of AIMS, Mr Dave Cundy, is its technical consultant.

Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 finishers of the full and a half marathon challenges.  All finishers in the 5km run and walk will receive a gift and a souvenir T-shirt each.

In addition, there will be a wide range of support activities to serve runners and supporters after the competition, such as information stands, tours to local tourist attractions, and a gala festival.
